GCF enhances Asian coverage with ADB

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed an Accreditation Master Agreement (AMA), making it eligible to now implement approved GCF projects. ADB currently has two proposed projects on renewable energy for the Cook Islands and Fiji. Please, read more here.

 GCF and EBRD join forces to support renewable energy

The Green Climate Fund and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) are working together to support a renewable energy project in Egypt. The signing of a Funded Activity Agreement (FAA) between the two entities confirms EBRD’s Green Economy Transition policy. Read more here.

Green Technology for Ghana, Myanmar, and Tonga by CTCN

The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), the operational arm of the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism, is collaborating with the Green Climate Fund to hasten the development and transfer of technologies for climate-resilient development and low-carbon and energy-efficient projects. CTCN will deliver green technology with funds approved to support projects in Ghana, Myanmar, and Tonga. Read more here.

Mainstreaming Gender in Green Climate Fund Projects

The GCF has launched its first climate gender manual which is developed with UN Women. The manual will guide GCF partners on how to promote gender inclusiveness in all aspects of climate finance governance. You may read the article here.

USD 10m in Funds Disbursed

The Green Climate Fund has disbursed USD10 million in funds to 59 countries to date. These funds are parts of the GCF’s Readiness Programme that provide support to strengthen the institutional capacities of National Designated Authorities/Focal Points and access entities to engage with the Fund more efficiently. The USD10 million has been disbursed to 59 developing countries – 44 small island developing states, LDCs, African countries and the most vulnerable communities to the effects of climate change.

GCF Sets Funding Proposal Schedule

The Green Climate Fund has approved 43 projects (worth USD7.3 billion) to date. This short article outlines the Fund’s indicative timeline for its consideration of funding proposals for the upcoming two Board meetings. For more details of the timeline, please click here.

Green Climate Fund’s 18th Board Meeting

The eighteenth meeting of the GCF Board meetings will be from 30th September to 2nd October 2017 in the Arab Republic of Egypt. Below are some of the provisional agenda of the meeting:

Guidance from the Conference of the Parties, Collaborative research and development in developing countries, risk management framework, request for proposals for REDD-plus results-based payments, status of the GCF pipeline and portfolio, readiness and preparatory support programme, policies related to prohibited practices, anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism, staffing of the Secretariat, and more.
