16th International Anti-Corruption Conference to be held in Malaysia

The following paragraphs is a note from Transparency International website regarding the postponed IACC…

“The International Anti-Corruption Conference Council and Transparency International announced today that the 16th edition of the International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) will take place in Malaysia, from the 2nd-4th September 2015.

The Conference will be jointly hosted with the Government of Malaysia, the National Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Malaysian Society for Transparency and Integrity (TI Malaysia).

The International Anti-Corruption Conference is  the world’s largest forum for bringing together leaders from the public and private sectors, civil society, international organisations, media and young people to discuss the increasingly sophisticated challenges posed by corruption.

The 16th conference programme theme will focus on “Ending Impunity: People, Integrity, Action.” The IACC team is currently finalising the plenary session design and the session proposal shortlist for workshops.

Originally planned for October 2014, in Tunis, Tunisia, the 16th Conference was postponed until 2015. The original postponement announcement can be read here.

Transparency International is the secretariat to the IACC Council.

Please check the 16th IACC website here for the latest information and updates on the conference themes and related events.”

More detailed descriptions as regards to the reasons why the IACC cannot be held in Tunisia, can be found at IACC’s website…

“As you know, Tunisia, the cradle of the Arab Spring, held its first free parliamentary elections on the 26th October 2014, with the Presidential elections following in November and December. Due to the proximity of these elections to the IACC the Tunisian Government requested the postponement of the Conference. Whilst we remain fully committed to supporting people of Tunisia through this milestone in their country’s transition to full democracy, the IACC Council has come to the conclusion that organizing an IACC in the immediate future in Tunisia is not feasible.”
