South Korean Renewable Energy

South Korean Renewable Energy Development

South Korea has been busy trying to implement its environmental policies and its pursuit for carbon-free environment.

The republic does not only hosts the Green Climate Fund in Songdo, but also puts into practice renewable energy sources in its public structures and spaces in its bustling cities but also in the countrysides.

The South Korean government is spending millions of dollars to take advantage of its technological developments by harnessing renewable sources of energy. One of its recent projects is harnessing solar and wind energies on an island.

Gapado Island, part of the famous honeymooners’ island of Jeju in the south, is being used as a model to become the world’s first carbon-free island. The island has almost a couple of hundreds of inhabitants who are relying mainly on solar and wind energies as sources for electricity. So far, the residents are happy with this new development in their area and glad that they only spend less than half for what they had been paying for electricity before the two windmills and solar panels were installed on the island.

The government of Jeju Island has spent millions of dollars to support the project for Gapado Island. In addition to the renewable energy sources, the island can only be explored on foot and by bicycles only.
