The 20th Anniversary of Transparency Korea and Supporters’ Night

Transparency Korea (Chairperson Sun-Hee Lee) will hold its 20th anniversary ceremony and supporters’ night at 6:30PM on August 30th (Friday) at the large ballroom of Seoul National Defence Convention.

Founded in August 1999, Transparency Korea was confirmed as the Korean headquarters of Transparency International in 2000 and has been working with various civic and social organizations to enact the anti-corruption law, the Public Interest Reporter Protection Act and the Anti-graft Act (Kim Young-Ran Act). In particular, the government proposed and realized the Transparent Social Convention in 2005 in which the government, politics, businesses and civil society cooperate together. It has also carried out various projects every year, including the announcement of the Corruption Perceptions Index by country, anti-corruption campaigns, clean education, research on transparency, activities to enhance corporate integrity, activities to promote defence and integrity in the defence industry, youth integrity activities and transparency activities of the Green Climate Fund, and signed agreements with some 40 agencies.

The ceremony will feature a commendation for model members and a reading of a declaration marking the 20th anniversary of Transparency Korea’s foundation. The ceremony will be attended by some 250 officials, including Defence Minister Chung Kyung-Doo, Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission Chairman Park Eun-Jung, Sangji University President Chung Dae-Hwa, senior presidential secretary for civil society Kim Geo-Sung, and Lee Chang-Hee, head of the Defence Agency for Technology and Quality, as well as government agencies, organizations that have been working for a transparent society, civil society, and recipients of Transparency Korea’s Transparent Society Award.

Before the ceremony, Transparency Korea will hold its 20th anniversary discussion forum jointly with the Agency for Defence Technology and Quality under the theme of “Assessment of the Korean Anti-Corruption Movement and Future Tasks – Focusing on Transparency Korea” at 3PM at the small banquet room of the Defence Convention.
